Editing
Services

All writers need editors, and we offer professional editing services to make sure your manuscript shines. If you’re planning on sending your manuscript to a publisher, or if you plan to self-publish, you owe it to yourself to have your story professionally edited.

Editing polishes your story, making it flow better, with more vibrancy and clarity. But just as importantly, a good edit helps you avoid the embarrassment of typos and poor sentencing in your published works. There’s a reason why all professional writers in the world have their stories edited several times.
The following are the editing services we offer.
  •  Editorial Evaluations
  •  Comprehensive Editing
  •  Copy Editing
  •  Proofreading

Editorial Evaluation

What It Is
An editorial evaluation helps you answer questions like: Is my story good enough to publish? Is it a quality manuscript? Does it need a major overhaul or is it ready for publishing after a basic proofread?

What We Do
A professional editor reads your manuscript from start to finish without making any changes. After this review, they write a short 3 – 10 page report outlining the strengths and weaknesses. They also include an assessment of what could be accomplished with further revisions.

Cost
Short story length manuscript: 1k – 10k words ($100)
Novel length manuscript: 50k – 100k words ($500)

Comprehensive Editing
What It Is
A comprehensive edit includes one round of content editing and one round of copy editing. A content edit looks at the overall quality of your story and how it can be improved. A professional editor considers issues related to pacing, structure, theme, character development and overall effectiveness of the story. The editor will also make suggestions about cutting material out, improving dialogue, or how to improve tension.

A copy edit fixes grammatical and spelling errors and improves any awkward sentence structure.

What We Do
A professional editor is assigned to your story. They will read it critically and suggest changes using “track changes” in MS Word. As the writer, you either accept or reject these changes since you get the final say on everything. All writing can be made more effective and stronger with the help of another person’s review

What It Costs
Our comprehensive editing service is charged at 3.0 cents/word

Copy Editing
What It Is
Copy editing catches the grammar and spelling mistakes and ensures your manuscript meets Canadian Press style requirements. It also cleans up awkward sentences. This type of editing puts the final polish on your story.

What We Do
A professional editor will review your story and suggest fixes for all grammar and spelling mistakes using “track changes” in MS Word.

What It Costs
Our copy editing service is charged at 1.75 cents/word.

Proofreading
What It Is
As a final, last check of your story, a proofreader will catch any spelling or grammar errors that may have been missed in copy editing. This is especially important if you are submitting your story to a publisher.

What We Do
One of our proofreaders will read your story and use “track changes” in MS Word to identify any final corrections.

What It Costs
Our proofreading service is charged out at 1.0 cents/word

Terms
All editing fees are to be paid up front before any work begins. If, after receiving the edits, you do not feel they will strengthen your manuscript, we will work together to address the issues.
